What is this blog about?

These are the tales of an NRI visiting India for an year. I left India for higher education in 1987. After a typical NRI life for 18 years in Texas and New Jersey, I returned with my family to Hyderabad as many are doing these days. Unlike most, I didn't return for good but to live for an year or so in India. That is why these are the Tales of Visiting NRI and not that of an NRI.

There are many reasons why I am maintaining this blog. Primarily to keep track of my experiences of returning to my home country after a long gap of 18 years. Another reason is to share the wealth of information about our family move with some of NRI friends, some of whom are planning to join the rising exodus of returning NRIs. I want to make their move smoother than ours.

There are few acronyms I will be using through my blogs. Here are few of them:

  • Indian/Resident Indian (RI): Resides in Indian. There are about a billion of them in India!
  • Non-Resident Indian (NRI): A person of Indian origin living outside India.
  • Returned NRI (R-NRI): An NRI who returned to India for good.
  • Visiting NRI (V-NRI): An NRI visiting India for few weeks (on vacation) or for an extended time like for few months or an year. I considered myself one such person.
  • ABCD: American Born Confused Desi. Usually kids of NRIs who look like Indians, behave like Americans and hold a jumble of American and Indian values (and hence 'confused').
Now enjoy and post your comments.
