One thing that I find in abundance on the roads of Hyderabad are speed bumps or speed breakers. In one stretch of less than a kilometer distance I encountered 13 of them. I wonder what the need is for these speed breakers when the state of the roads are so outrageous and the pot holes themselves act as speed deterrents on these roads. Some of these breakers are almost like a small wall scrapping the bottom of the cars.
It is one of the most irritating aspect of driving in India. Driving in India is like walking in India - one has to look down not up while driving or walking. If you don't follow this rule, you don't know on what you will step on or what will hit your car.
I understand that the purpose of such 'breakers' are to discourage speeders but there should be a policy as what should be the height of them, and how often they should put them, and most importantly they should mark them with white and black paint to warn about their presence.
Seriously, the road authorities in India are not aware that at every time a vehicle has to slow down to a lower gear and then pick up the speed, the vehicle consumes lot of petrol as compared to a vehicle cruising at a constant speed. I bet much of the imported fuel that India purchase is wasted from bad roads, improperly maintained vehicles, and speed breakers. The wear and tear of the vehicles due to these breakers and poor state of roads is another story.
